Finding the right tech is key in accounting today
What’s the right tech stack for your UK Accounting Firm?
With a plethora of software on the market, it’s so difficult to choose the right tech stack for your firm. It does not end at just Xero and Taxcalc, there are so many other components that help our firm.
It’s so easy to sign up to these products that promise the world, but if you don’t use them right, no tech stack will transform your practice.
Training and the right team are key when you have chosen the tech stack.
In no particular order, I have listed our current tech stack that we use on a daily basis for the accounting part of our business. (I hope I have not missed anything!)
Practice Ignition - For engagement letters and ensuring you get the money up front before you even start the work. Game changer.
Xero/hubdoc and XPM - Not much to say, but our mainstay for book-keeping. Been using it a long time and clients like it, so why change if it works well?
Taxcalc - For AML, tax returns and accounts production
Brightpay - For Payroll and pensions! Again slick interface and easy to use
Calendly - For client booking meetings/calls with us - great piece of kit
Wordpress - Great free tool, but get a developer who know’s it inside out to build you the best website possible
Bigin - New CRM tool we use, works well for our team needs, and reasonably priced
Typeform - Great at capturing information from clients - nice and smooth flow to them
Zapier - We’d be lost without this - it connects everything so well when an API is not available - game changer!
Ahrefs - Our SEO tool - Amazing piece of kit that helps us analyse traffic and keyword ranking progression which helps our content team deliver even more quality content
Brevo - For mass email sending - does what is says on the tin
Buffer - For scheduling Social media posts
Chat GPT 4 - If you have not heard of this, you must be living in a cave. Game changer on so many levels, play with it, and try it out, so helpful for a variety of things including structuring emails, reports, coming up with titles, marketing content…nige
Google Ads - Been at the heart of our firm for many years, but set it up right and it will yield
Google Analytics - As an accountant and engineer, analysing numbers is my joy. GA gives so much information to geeks like me!
These are tools we cannot live with out in our firm, but the key is to have a team who are well trained and know how to use them.
I’d be interested to hear what tech do you use? Anything we are missing?
I hope you find this list useful!
